Engagement Photos - Coney Island Pier

John's a big Requiem for a Dream junkie, so I made sure to hang back and capture him and Amanda at this particular perspective, slightly zoomed in down the length of the pier. The actual movie poster uses a slightly longer focal length and also starts further back on the pier, but i didn't have it for reference (it's also fake... I think...). This was just an attempt to set up the shot from memory, and without asking them to pose. I also had an oblivious man walking towards them, so I had to act quickly, before he ruined the shot. The original image was rather drab, and simply increasing saturation would not have produced the shot you see above. The skies would have gone to a bluish grey, and the pier itself would have turned chalky. I put the image into Photoshop, duplicated it, and made one version of the picture with a blue tint, and one with a warmer red-orange tint. Then, using the lasso and magic wand tools, i strategically subtracted the ocean and sky from the warmer picture, leaving a rejuvenated pier overlaid on clear skies and blue waters.
